21 February 2002 - The Jewish state
Muslims should have no problem with the idea of a Jewish state. After all Jewish communities were recognised as "ummahs" or nations within the Islamic system of government (Khalifate). They had their own courts whose judgements were respected and enforced. This Islamic system of government is no longer present in the world. If it returned we could see a Jewish state existing within a federal Islamic state much like any state in exists within the USA. The difference would perhaps be mainly that a Jew is subject to Jewish laws where ever they were within the overall 'federal' state. It may well be that there are a variety of Jewish laws for different Jewish communities with Jews able to move from one jurisdiction to another. That would be up to them to decide. However, just as in the United States the 'federal' government has control to ensure respect and enforcement of universal unalienable God given rights. Such rights were first established in Islam and have been taught, though not always implemented, for many centuries. These are taught as the role and duties of the state in beginners classes on the subject:
The role of the state is the general welfare of the people.
The duties of the state with regard to all people under its control:
Protect their lives and bodies from assault
Protect their freedom to live according to their religion
Protect their freedom of thought
Protect their property
Protect their honour
Any Jewish state within an Islamic 'federation' would not be allowed to violate such basic rights. If the Jewish state continues in its current form in which it routinely violates the basic God given rights of the Palestinians, both Christians and Muslims then eventually, God willing, it will be forced to respect those rights.
